St Patrick's Cathedral, New York, USA
St Patrick's Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Cathedral located at 50th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York, United States in America. The cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of New York and is the largest Roman Catholic Cathedral in the United States of America.
The construction of St Patrick's Cathedral began in 1858 but construction works were interrupted by the outbreak of the American Civil War (1861–1865). Building of the cathedral continued in 1865 and was finished in 1878. The 103,3 meters (330 feet) high spires were added in 1888 and the Lady Chapel in 1906. Design for St Patrick's Cathedral was made by architect James Renwick, Jr. and was built from white marble in Neo-Gothic style. The cathedral was restored between 1927 and 1931, while the Kilgen Organs were installed in 1929. The Kilgen Organs were restored in the 1990's, the Lady Chapel in in 2003 and chapels of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Andrew in 2005.
