Bom Jesus do Monde is a Roman Catholic church located on a hill near the town of Braga, Portugal. The first chapel dates from 1373 and is dedicated to the Holy Cross. It was rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries.
The church dedicated to the Bom Jesus (Good Jesus) was built in 1629 but the construction of the present Bom Jesus do Monte began in 1722 under Archbishop of Braga, Rodrigo de Moura Telles. The present sanctuary was completed in 1725 including the zigzag Baroque stairway which climbs 116 meters (381 feet) and is dedicated to the Five Senses. The works on the first chapels, stairways and church continued in the 18th century. Three octagonal chapels were built in the 1760s. The present Neoclassic church was designed by Carlos Amarante and built between 1784 and 1834 when it was also consecrated. The old Baroque church which was built by architect Manuel Pinto Vilalobos around 1725 was demolished.
