The first wooden church on the Bled Lake dates from 8th or 9th century and was dedicated to the Mary's birth. Masonry church in Romanesque style is mentioned for the first time in 1185 but it was rebuilt in Gothic style in the 15th century. The present Baroque church dates from 1698.
