Sagrada Familia, Spain
Sagrada Familia is a Roman Catholic Church located in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The construction of the church began in 1882 after the design of architect Francisco del Villar. The project overtaken by architect Antoni Gaudí in 1884 who worked on the project for 40 years and designed 18 towers: 12 for the 12 apostles, 4 for the 4 evangelists, one for the Virgin Mary and one for Jesus.
After Gaudí's death the construction of the church was entrusted to Domènech Sugranyes but in 1935 the construction was interrupted by the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. The construction of Sagrada Familía continued after 1940 and was overseen by architects Francesc Quintana, Isidre Puig Boada, Lluís Bonet i Gari, Francesco Cardoner and Jordi Bonet i Armengol but the impressive church in unique Gothic style remaines uncompleted. It is planned to be completed on the 100th anniversary of Gaudi's death in 2026.
