Church of St Simeon Stylites, Aleppo, Syria
Church of St Simeon Stylites is located in Qal at Simân (the Mansion of Simeon) on an isolated site 60 km from Aleppo, Syria. The church was built about 474 in honor of St Simeon Stylites who lived there atop a column for 37 years. Church of St Simeon Stylites has a shape of a cross with a courtyard surrounded by four basilicas. In the center of the courtyard is a 2 meter high boulder considered to be the St Simeon's column. Beautiful and well preserved church from the 5th century still attracts many pilgrims as well as tourists. Church of St Simeon Stylites was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1999.
