Dresden Frauenkirche was completely destroyed during Allied bombing of Dresden in 1945. The Eastern German communist authorities had no interest to rebuilt the church until 1985 when it was decided that Dresden Frauenkirche will be rebuil after the completion of reconstruction of the Dresden castle. The Society to Promote the Reconstruction of the Frauenkirche established in 1990 organized fund raising campaign for rebuilding of Fraunkirche which finally started under the direction of church architect and engineer Eberhard Burger in January 1993. The reconstruction of church's exterior was completed in 2004 and the interior in 2005. Dresden Frauenkirche was reconsecrated on October 30, 2005.
